In my article about the EPA’s certification of the Fisker Karma, I wrote that the authorities estimated a range of 32 miles for electric-only operation. The folks at Fisker said that was too conservative. Without providing their own estimate, they said the Karma would beat that in the real world.
Redemption came today when Europe’s regulatory agency Technischer Ueberwachungs Verein reported 51.6 miles on electricity alone in their urban driving test.
“We are delighted that the TUV has confirmed that most owners will achieve a 50 mile range running purely on electric during their daily commute,” said Henrik Fisker, the automakers CEO and co-founder.
While it appears that the Europeans are giving the Karma a more favorable assessment than the EPA did, the US regulator still gave the vehicle the highest score, 10 out of 10, for fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions.
