Are You Ready to Buy a Fuel Efficient Car Yet?

by

A friend posted this photo on Facebook yesterday. He lives in California where, lately, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sells for well over $4. Just 12 gallons cost him over fifty bucks.

Last year when gas prices were low, we reported on a jump in searches for trucks and SUVs. Now that prices are climbing again, we’re seeing a corresponding rise in the popularity of more fuel-efficient vehicles. Gasoline prices may be volatile in the short term, but they clearly trend upward in the long term.

Insure yourself against rising gas prices next time you buy. Purchase the most fuel efficient suitable vehicle you can afford, not the biggest or most luxurious one. Or at least consider the cost of operating it when fuel inevitably averages over $5 per gallon nationally in the next few years.
