Brave New World: Hybrid Audis to Race at Le Mans

The eightieth running of the world’s premier endurance automobile racing event will include two prototype sports cars using hybrid technology. Back in 2006, Audi brought diesel-powered rigs to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and has enjoyed great success with these TDI cars. In fact, Audi has taken ten Le Mans victories since 2000.

Big Diesel Sighting

I saw this big motor while traveling on I-75. A little research suggests that it’s a Caterpillar 3516, a 69-liter (4210 c.i.) twin-turbo V16 that produces up to 2200 horsepower and requires 106 gallons (424 quarts or over 35 cases) of motor oil.
