Cigarette Boat Inspired by Mercedes-Benz AMG Black Series

There probably aren’t too many Cigarette Racing boat owners driving around in Camrys and Odysseys. High-performance off-shore powerboats aren’t for regular folks. No, they’re the toys of wealthy adrenaline junkies, people that buy cars like the 510-horsepower Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. That’s the special Black Series version of the already-special AMG version of the C-Class coupe. At $105,000, the […]

Correction: 1945 GMC 300-Series Truck

Last week, I joined my friend Eric Johnson to look at an old GMC truck he found for sale. He bought it, but getting home was a challenge. And as Eric guessed before we even first set eyes on it, it’s not a 1940 model like the ad stated. While the truck runs and was able to drive down the […]

1940 GMC Truck bought on Craigslist

Today I joined a friend to look at this 1940 GMC truck that was advertised for sale on Craigslist. My expectations were low, but this truck is really very nice. The body has been repainted but is in remarkable original condition given its 72-year-old age. All of the metal is straight with no filler. Some minor rust bubbles have popped […]

Porsche Macan Concept – Stuttgart’s Latest SUV

Porsche has named its upcoming compact SUV, and it isn’t Cajun, though it is a tiger. It’s called Macan, derived from the Indonesian word for tiger. Porsche says the Macan will begin rolling off the production line in Leipzig in 2013.

Scouting Mission – Classic Domestic Iron

Dave May and I had a chance to visit a local collector yesterday, and wound up finding a whole lot more than we anticipated. Here are a few nice examples from his substantial collection. We hope to bring one or more articles and galleries dedicated to individual vehicles from this collection soon. The weather did not allow us to shoot […]

I Dream in Rosso Corsa: Vintage Ferrari Drive

My eyelids sprang open, and I glanced at the alarm clock hoping it was at least 5:00 AM. Unfortunately, it read 2:46. I would need more sleep, but I felt like I just slammed back an espresso doppio. 3:08…3:37…. Be still. Relax. Breathe. 3:44…4:09…. In and out of sleep now, tossing and turning. Finally, the alarm sounded. It was 6:15, […]

Chicago Auto Show

I provided coverage of several brands for the 2012 Chicago Auto Show for Autotrader.com. While the Windy City’s show is not the biggest in terms of debuts, it still brings plenty of exciting concepts and production introductions. My favorites include the Kia Track’ster, a high-performance concept based on the Soul, as well as the newest creation by Ford’s SVT crew, […]

Brave New World: Hybrid Audis to Race at Le Mans

The eightieth running of the world’s premier endurance automobile racing event will include two prototype sports cars using hybrid technology. Back in 2006, Audi brought diesel-powered rigs to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and has enjoyed great success with these TDI cars. In fact, Audi has taken ten Le Mans victories since 2000.
