Geneva Motor Show Coverage Underway at AutoTrader.com

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show is underway, and so is AutoTrader.com‘s coverage of one of Europe’s biggest automotive exhibitions. I’m following several manufacturers for AutoTrader.com, including supercar builders Bugatti and Koenigsegg, each of whom are introducing new 1000+ horsepower machines. Aston Martin’s new sports cars don’t have quite that much muscle, but both its V8 Vantage and V12 Zagato look […]

Are You Ready to Buy a Fuel Efficient Car Yet?

A friend posted this photo on Facebook yesterday. He lives in California where, lately, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sells for well over $4. Just 12 gallons cost him over fifty bucks. Last year when gas prices were low, we reported on a jump in searches for trucks and SUVs. Now that prices are climbing again, we’re seeing a […]

Brave New World: Hybrid Audis to Race at Le Mans

The eightieth running of the world’s premier endurance automobile racing event will include two prototype sports cars using hybrid technology. Back in 2006, Audi brought diesel-powered rigs to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and has enjoyed great success with these TDI cars. In fact, Audi has taken ten Le Mans victories since 2000.

Follow Your Heart, but Bring Cash

After years of waiting for Henrik Fisker’s radical and ambitious concept to become a real production vehicle, I laid eyes on a production Karma recently at Caffeine & Octane, a local monthly gathering of enthusiasts and their cars. Days later, I was behind the wheel of said car, getting my first real impression of this unparalleled machine. Intellectual justification for […]

Prius c Available Spring 2012

I’m stretched thin this week preparing coverage of the LA Auto Show, but I had to post this tidbit in response to interest in Toyota’s upcoming Prius c, or “the little one.” Toyota will debut the subcompact Prius c hybrid at January’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new member of the Prius family claims a 50-mpg city […]

Fisker Karma outperforms EPA electric-only estimate

In my article about the EPA’s certification of the Fisker Karma, I wrote that the authorities estimated a range of 32 miles for electric-only operation. The folks at Fisker said that was too conservative. Without providing their own estimate, they said the Karma would beat that in the real world. Redemption came today when Europe’s regulatory agency Technischer Ueberwachungs Verein […]
